Clover Brooks has always felt a stronger connection with those at the end of their life than in the middle of it. She dedicates herself to ushering people peacefully though their final days, working as a death doula in New York City. Her client's last words are collected in three treasured notebooks, neatly labelled: ADVICE, CONFESSIONS and REGRETS.
Then she meets Claudia: a woman who has had the kind of life that Clover hasn't dared imagine for herself. But even Claudia has one regret. Now, with only an old love letter, a road map and a leap of faith, Clover begins her first adventure...
A big-hearted story about figuring out what we really want from life - and finding the courage to go after it.

Narrator Jennifer Pickens breathes life into Brammer's debut novel. The story is told by Clover, a death doula who is more comfortable with the dying than the living--who finally learns to live. Pickens gives Clover a voice that is distant and uncomfortable with everyday interactions but compassionate and empathetic with her dying clients. Her past is revealed slowly as the novel explains how a 36-year-old woman can be totally alone in the world and how her work with the dying is awakening in her the importance of living her life. The grandfather who raised her; her elderly neighbor, Leo; and her current client, Claudia, have voices filled with love and wisdom. A conversation between the author and the narrator completes the production. N.E.M. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine

The Collected Regrets of Clover is the heartwarming debut novel by Australian author and journalist Mikki Brammer. Set in New York, the book centres on Clover Brooks, a socially isolated ‘death doula’ in her mid-30s. Clover has spent much of her lifetime dealing with and learning about death. Experiencing her first death during kindergarten and the loss of both her parents while in the first grade, Clover moves to New York to live with her grandfather, who passes down much wisdom about life. Clover has great compassion and ends up working with the dying, shepherding her clients through their last days of life. In the process, she also documents their ‘Regrets’, ‘Advice’ and ‘Confessions’ in her notebooks—aside from her pets, these are the things Clover would save in a fire! The most common theme in the ‘Regrets’ notebook is not telling friends and family that you love them, but it would seem Clover may have lost her chance at love. That is until she meets Sylvie, the new girl who has just moved into the building, and Sebastian, a young man whose family doesn’t talk about death even though his grandmother is dying. For readers of Ella Baxter's New Animal, this is a promising debut from a talented writer. Brammer’s words seem to have flown effortlessly onto the page as she takes us through important life lessons about friendship, trust, compassion, finding the beauty and magic in life, and most importantly opening your heart to love.
