Billy Weaver, 17 and arriving in Bath searching for work, is headed for the Bell and Dragon where he plans to stay during his business meeting. On his way there, he finds a boardinghouse. He presses the doorbell, and before he can lift his finger from the bell-button, the door opens and a middle-aged landlady appears.
