      Narrator Rosalyn Landor sweeps listeners back to England in the 1800s. Gabriel Thorne has returned to claim an earldom after years away in America. When he encounters Lady Jessica Archer, he decides she would be a suitable wife. Lady Jessica comes from a large family, and listeners are made to feel part of it as they easily distinguish one character from another. When Lady Jessica and Thorne attend a variety of balls, Landor has listeners feeling like they're there. Lady Jessica's delight at realizing she's falling in love with Thorne is palpable.
