Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Naturally Tan written and read by Tan France.
In this heartfelt, funny, touching memoir, Tan France, star of Netflix's Emmy award-winning Queer Eye, tells his origin story for the first time. With his trademark wit, humor, and radical compassion, Tan reveals what it was like to grow up gay in a traditional South Asian family, as one of the few people of colour in South Yorkshire. He illuminates his winding journey of coming of age, finding his voice (and style!), and happily marrying the love of his life - a Mormon cowboy from Salt Lake City.
Humorous and poignant personal essays are peppered with style advice, funny lists, and the truisms that Tan has accumulated in his journey from South Yorkshire to Netflix.
In Tan's own words, 'The book is meant to spread joy, personal acceptance, and most of all understanding. Each of us is living our own private journey, and the more we know about each other, the healthier and happier the world will be.'

Tan France's unique accent, chummy intimacy, and cheeky delivery make audio the best way to experience his memoir. Fans will get to know the "Queer Eye" fashion expert as he shares stories about growing up South Asian in England, meeting his American husband and settling in Salt Lake City, starting his fashion businesses, and the road to getting cast in "Queer Eye." France is frank about racism and profiling he's experienced as both a child and an adult, and he offers some real talk about managing fame in the era of social media (yes, he'll stop on the street for a selfie with you; no, he won't meet you for dinner). Another audio bonus: a delightful surprise appearance from a fellow "Queer Eye" cast member. J.M.D. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine

France, the fashion guru of Netflix’s Queer Eye, loves an “I told you so,” as he makes very clear in this feisty and affecting memoir. In covering his rise to Emmy Award–winning stardom from his beginnings as one of the few Pakistani children in his small town in South Yorkshire in the 1980s (and the bullying he endured there), France writes of his misguided dream of being a Bollywood star (he can’t act or dance) and of launching a successful clothing brand before receiving a call from a talent manager for Queer Eye. Peppering his memoir with fashion advice that sometimes borders on harsh (“If you’re wearing Crocs and you’re worried about being single, all you have to do is look down at your feet”), France gives fans of the reality series an inside look at what goes into his fashion choices on the show (including the “French tuck” style of wearing a shirt he popularized). The chapters, which can shift abruptly between themes (a chapter on mouthwash is followed by a chapter on Bollywood), are each marked with appealing illustrations that highlight the stylist’s chic sense of flair. France’s charming anecdotes and candid opinions exhibit no shortage of humor, and fans of the TV personality will revel in the peek into his colorful history.
