David Copperfield was Dickens's favorite novel. Strikingly autobiographical in its childhood scenes, it relates Copperfield's history from birth to manhood, and the Dickensian characters he meets on his journey of self-knowledge: Mr. Micawber, the Peggottys, Betsey Trotwood, Steerforth and Uriah Heep, to name just a few among the many.
